THE SECRET LIFE OF TUMKIT
Children's Book about a Brave Little Rabbit in a Big World of Trouble
Tumkit, a baby rabbit, and his friends take the reader on an exciting adventure to the top of Laurel Mountain to save the magic berry bush. Filled with intrigue, suspense and lovable characters, the story is a wonderful action packed story for children.
Left behind in a cold and dark burrow, a baby rabbit named Tumkit was destined to die of starvation until Vella, a mockingbird, discovered Tumkit and brought him a magic berry. The berry came from a solitary bush that grows in a cave near the top of Laurel Mountain. Vella warns Tumkit that the bush is struggling to survive and unless they act quickly the supernatural powers of its berries will be lost forever. Tumkit, Vella and Sully, a one-year-old deer and loyal friend to Vella, travel up the steep mountain in a desperate attempt to save the bush. Their quest takes a dangerous turn when they encounter Borwong, an angry and heartless grizzly bear, who refuses to allow anyone on his mountain.
Author Billy Garrett, puts us right into the world where Tumkit is all alone and left behind to fend for himself. The travels and escapades are exciting and well thought out. Children enjoy listening to the story as well as reading it for themselves. You fall in love with the animal characters and root for them. It's filled with adventure and turmoil. It also contains good moral issues that will touch each child.
Billy Garrett is a retired contractor living in Oregon during the summer and California in the winter. He loves playing the guitar, fishing the ocean, writing and spending time with their grandchildren. Billy says, "They've had such a positive impact on my life! They've reminded me how to have fun with my imagination just by watching them play with the simplest of things. I can't tell you how many store-bought presents my wife and I have given them for birthdays or Christmas, only to later see them playing in the sandbox with a stick and an old bucket." He began to write at the age of sixty-five and has now written his memoir, Behind Sight, specifically for his grandchildren.
The Secret Life of Tumkit hit number one on Amazon. Here's a testimonial from a teacher that read to her students:
"The boys and girls in my class thoroughly enjoyed Billy's book. They said, 'Best book I've ever read.' I hope he writes another one because his books are fun. I really liked the story because of all the un-expected and exciting things that happened." Rosemary Bierman, school teacher for gifted children.
